Flawless visible components made of thermoplastic fibre composites (FRP) are currently mainly produced with the aid of variothermal process control, what increases the expenditure in terms of tooling an temparature control technology and reduces the energy efficiency in lightweight production. This is a circumstance that is bringing dynamic temperature control and the assotiated challenges more and more into focus. Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH has set inself the goal of systematically investigating problems such as long cycle times, component distortion, air inclusions, microcracks, and surface defects as a function of mold temperature control, also simulatively using the SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding software. For the precision forming of thermoplastic fibre composites, this modern calculation method can be used to take a closer look at the following issues:

  • Heat balance of the entire forming tool;
  • Tool deformation ans stresses depending on temperature, pressure and fixing points;
  • Illustration of the temperature control including the flow conditions in the temperature control channels;
  • Different heating methods (fluids, heating elements and induction).
