Additive manufacturing

Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH

Individual, large-scale components

There are currently a large number of additive manufacturing processes on the market. The majority are limited to a maximum production size of a few hundred millimeters. If larger components are required, only a few 3D printing technologies are suitable.

Gel-Dispensing-Printing (short: GDP) used at NMF is an interesting new technology. A highly viscous, UV-curing gel is discharged in layers through a nozzle and then cured directly via UV radiation. The special viscosity properties of the reactive resin enables layers of 0.75 to 1.3 mm to be applied and three-dimensional objects to be produced at high processing speeds and correspondingly short production times. The size of the components that can be produced is only limited by the size of the machine

GDP-manufacturing at NMF

  • Building space: 150 cm x 120 cm x 180 cm
  • Simultaneous generation of two different models with two print heads
  • Travel speeds up to 300 mm/s
  • Layer thicknesses 0.75 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.3 mm
  • Possibility to manufacture strong overhangs without support structures
  • Modified printhead to test alternative materials with small amounts of material

Advantages over alternative large format 3D printing processes

  • Good material utilization due to few support structures and energy-efficient due to non-tempered installation space and base plate
  • Versatile post-treatment steps possible due to the use of duroplastic material (e.g.: foaming, painting, coating, filling, grinding, polishing)

ABOUT US

Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH (NMF) is a national research center of the Bavarian State. We transform cutting-edge materials and manufacturing methods into industrial solutions. Our 3000 m² testing field is equipped with large-scaled industrial facilities. The scope of our work is not limited to research – we also manufacture prototypes and small batches.

Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH is linked with Neue Materialien Bayreuth GmbH and the University of Erlangen (Universität Erlangen/FAU).
